About me

I’m a composer in San Francisco. My most substantial work so far is the opera At the Hawk’s Well, adapted from the play by W. B. Yeats, performed in June 2024.

I was born in 1965, and grew up in Los Angeles. I began composing in my teens, and entered university as a composition major. But I didn’t complete that, instead switching to linguistics for my BA. I went on to Berkeley, earning a PhD in computer science in 1997. During those years, I took several music classes, notably from Olly Wilson.

But it wasn’t till 2015 that I decided to pursue music seriously. I took composition lessons from Jono Kornfeld at the SF Community Music Center, and privately from Michael Kaulkin. I have had a number of pieces performed locally, especially with NACUSA-SF, the SF Composers Chamber Orchestra, and Bay Area Arts Alliance.

The Compositions page here is a blog archive of my work.
